A
Theology of Faithful Action:
"Responding through faith to end extreme poverty!"
Millennium
Congregation is founded on the theology that is a common thread
through all world religions: that God calls humanity to bring
justice, compassion, and reconciliation in responding to the
needs of the poor and oppressed. In studying the holy texts
of all the major religions, concern and care for the poor is
a central message of God's call to a faithful life.
And God's
call extends far beyond charity or emergency aid in time of
need. God's justice is one that reconciles humanity to one another
and God by restoring a more perfect vision of the wholeness
of creation. In the face of extreme poverty, God's justice demands
that the root causes of extreme poverty be addressed so that
the extreme poor are lifted out of poverty and can share equitably
in the resources that God has provided for all.
Such justice
requires something on our part. To be partners with God and
the extreme poor in bringing about justice, compassion, and
reconciliation, we must be willing to share our resources to
empower the poor to realize a life that God desires and intends
for all.
Through
Millennium Congregation we can all offer some of our resources
to empower the extreme poor to break free of the poverty trap
and build sustainable futures -- for themselves and future generations.
Together,
we can respond through faith to end extreme poverty.
